Sifnian Echea is an improvised composition played by four performers sounding pottery from the Lembesis studio on the Greek island of Sifnos. Echea are sounding vases, or acoustic jars, that are typically found in walls, ceilings, or floors and were thought to enhance the sound of singers and performers. The fine craftsmanship of Lembesis pottery produces a ringing sound similar to crystal when struck; each piece has a unique pitch.
