Sound and Vision (XXX) is a collaborative project by artists Kelsey Bosch, Julie Benda, and Kathryn Miller commissioned for Art Shanty Projects. This shanty calibrates the viewer’s experience of winter in Minnesota, connecting what is experienced here to the changes recorded in polar landscapes. Two familiar holes were cut into the ice. The first is a window to the still life below. The second is formed by auger and is fitted with a cone through which a piezo hydrophone amplifies the sounds emanating from the lake ice underfoot. What is heightened by the sounds of ice cracking is our precarious future.
Sound and Vision (XXX) was generously supported by Art Shanty Projects.
